HOSTING Heritage

Many of our users prefer to let us host the Heritage Online (the web-interface to Heritage) on their behalf. There are a number of benefits to this approach, not least that we assume responsibility for installation, maintenance and upgrades.

If live data is hosted (i.e. a real-time view of the data) then a connection will be required from our WebServer back to your Heritage fileserver. With a live system your users can no only search but also, optionally, view their own library account, reserve and renew items and maintain their own list of items.

Live hosting is a secure solution, but some institutions are precluded from running it because of local restrictions, in these cases, we can host a 'snapshot' copy of Heritage instead which gives full search access to your catalogue but without user accounts or item availability information.

NHSNet HOSTING

The NHS runs a secure network from which publishing data to the internet can be difficult, meaning that users usually have to be within the NHS to access your system. We are able to offer full Heritage Online hosting on behalf of NHS users using our own secure NHSNet (N3) connection. Thus we can securely publish your Heritage catalogue on to the internet whilst leaving Heritage running from its existing server.

An important advantage of this approach is that we handle the installation, configuration and maintenance of Heritage Online, which means that you and your IT colleagues can get on with other, more important things.
