Another new college has taken the plunge this autumn.

James Watt College is one of Scotland's biggest centres of further and higher education. There are learning centres on three of the four campuses, and Heritage has been selected to help them improve the services they are able to offer their students.

Heritage Cirqa - at last a name for our 2012 release!

Mon, 04/10/2010 - 1:31pm

A fresh new development requires a fresh new name.

It is surprising how difficult agreeing on a name can be, but we all agreed that 'Heritage Anywhere' was a bit of a mouthful especially when 'library management software' is added to the end. We fully expect the new product to be known primarily by the new name, and 'Anywhere' didn't really fit the bill! We have cautiously agreed on 'Heritage Cirqa' (pronounced circa) as our new working title - we'd be very interested to hear your comments (good and bad)....

If you would like to know more about how the name came about, have a look at 'What's in a name: Cirqa or Circa".

Deeside College go live with Heritage

Tue, 21/09/2010 - 11:09am

Heritage at last brings together the resources of the two main campuses.

Following the merge with the Welsh College of Horticulture in 2009, Deeside College were looking to replace their former Trax system and to finally computerise the library at the WCOH's Northrop campus. Having first had a demonstration of Heritage in 2006, the college finally got the go-ahead earlier this year. Patrick Cox, Learning Zone Manager, is delighted: "All staff are pleased with the switch to Heritage, also we merged with Coleg Llysfasi in August and hope to bring them onboard with Heritage in November so we'll have three colleges under the Deeside College umbrella across Flintshire and Denbighshire serving 20,000 students."

Nicky Berry, the librarian, selected Heritage after looking at a number of systems, and rounded off the summer break by attending our Open Day in August, meeting lots of other Heritage users in addition to all the staff here that had handled her implementation.

Indian Village Library project nears completion

Mon, 06/09/2010 - 7:43am

Each year, at Christmas, IS Oxford sponsors a Village library project in India via the Good Gifts organization.

Our 2009 Village Library project is being set up in the state of Karnataka in southern India and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. This area has rural villages and slum areas and the library will improve the lives of adults and children who only have access to a very basic level of education and facilities. The library is expected to carry between 500 and 1,000 books together with two daily newspapers.

More information together with photos (which we will publish on our website) will be sent by the RLHP (Rural Literacy and Health Programme) who are setting up and running our project when they are available. The library will be named after the village.

Swindon College is the largest provider of higher education courses in Wiltshire. They have migrated over the summer from Sirsi Unicorn to Heritage.

The decision to move to Heritage was made earlier this year, and the data migration and training was undertaken over the summer break. Students at the college will be able to take advantage of all the great new features in Heritage Online when they return to their studies in September.

NEW Offline Circulation Module

Wed, 11/08/2010 - 9:52am

A new Offline Circulation Module is now available for use with Heritage.

It is an optional, standalone module which allows issues and returns to be recorded when the library system is unavailable e.g. because of network problems or server failure.

Transactions can be recorded at multiple locations and imported in to the live system once it is available again. Unlike many other library management systems, there is no requirement to load the off-line data before circulation resumes (although it is advisable to do it soon afterwards). The module is priced at £325 plus VAT (multi-site users can have multiple copies at no extra charge).
