Heritage for Medical Libraries
At present there are over two hundred Medical libraries in the UK using Heritage. Below are a few reasons why!
- We can provide hosting services to the NHS as we have a connection to NHSNet from our Oxford office.
- Suitable for large multi-site institutions.
- Annual support and upgrade costs which are substantially less than for equivalent systems.
- FREE remote installation of Heritage (or can be installed by local staff in less than 15 minutes).
- Upgrades can be trialled by creating a copy of your copy of Heritage to a stand-alone to upgrade first.
- A copy of your catalogue can be created in order to provide a training environment or practice global changes/deletions etc.
- Quickcat Online – download catalogue records from the National Library of Medicine, British National Bibliography or Library of Congress directly into the Heritage catalogue record.
- Supports a variety of classification schemes, including NLM and Bliss.
- Heritage Online – Online version of OPAC and circulation facilities which can be provided via the Internet (with a secure link to NHSNet in order to provide availability and reader information).
- FREE book covers facility, providing book cover images for your catalogue automatically.
- Inter-operability with existing systems via SIP2, ODBC, LDAP, Z39.50 etc.
- Event Scheduler – Schedule processes such as the creation of reports, sending of overdue notices etc so they are generated automatically.
- Circulation Facilities – Heritage offers the most sophisticated circulation facilities around, including short loans, timed loans, postal loans and inter-site transfers.
- Attention to Detail – provides helpful facilities such as URL checker, spellchecker and Dates facility (where reports can be produced outlining administration duties e.g. “all items expiring this week” etc).
- We have a proven history of supplying and supporting Heritage, particularly for medical libraries (Bookshelf, the predecessor to Heritage, was designed in collaboration with the Cairns Medical Library at the John Radcliffe Hospital).
- The longevity of both the company and the product, and the excellent customer retention figures we enjoy, are evidence of our good reputation.
- Heritage is specifically designed to provide a clear, uncluttered and user-friendly layout, which we believe is incredibly important to those who use it on a day-to-day basis. We believe that design is often overlooked by our competitors, setting Heritage apart.
- We are committed to development for the future, and the provision of free upgrades to our customers as part of our standard support service.
- We are working on a fully web-based version of Heritage which will be offered as a free upgrade to customers running Heritage Online and with a valid support contract – we are not aware of any other supplier that has done this.
- We offer a portfolio of remote support services, which we can provide securely.
- We provide each customer with a Support Guide, a named support contact who will contact you proactively to ensure you are happy with Heritage and our services.
- We believe that our excellent reputation is proof of our commitment to both our product and our customers, as this can only be attained after many years of a consistently high quality product and service.
“It is always good to have a system that looks good on the desktop for users as this definitely ups the users’ perception of a switched-on library service.”
