Heritage Data Conversions

Converting from an existing system

If you already have a Library Management System, you have already created a catalogue for your resources which is tailored to the structure and demands of your library. IS Oxford has more than 15 years experience in converting data from other systems to Heritage - at the last count we have converted from over fifty different sources. We know, however, that every library catalogue is unique, and always liaise very closely with the customer to ensure that the data appears in Heritage in a way best suited to their needs.

At IS Oxford we don't simply run your data through an existing conversion program, we carefully analyse your records for patterns and inconsistencies so that we can provide the best possible results. A trial conversion is undertaken, which is then reviewed by the customer prior to the final conversion. Often we will train library staff on Heritage in the interim using the trial data, which not only provides an thorough test of the data, but also improves the value of the training day for your staff.

Some of the systems we have converted data from are listed below (with links to any that are featured in our Case Studies):

Alice Genesis
Bookshelf Idealist
CAIRS Inmagic DB/Textworks
CALM/CALM 2000 Integer
Dataease LIMES
Dobis Libis Lotus Notes
Dolphin OLIB
Dynix Sirsi Unicorn
Ex Libris TINLIB

If you would like to speak with a Heritage user that has converted from the system that you currently use then please contact the sales team on (01865) 481010 or email and we would be happy to put you in touch.

It is possible that a data conversion from an existing system is not the best route for you, perhaps because the data is very poor or out of date. In this case you might wish to consider using Quickcat Online to provide you with the records for your catalogue. Quickcat Online can also be used to improve the quality of the data in a data conversion by running all items with ISBNs against the Quickcat data (which comes from the British Library, Library of Congress and National Library of Medicine databases)

Theological Heritage User Group (THUG) Data

For Theological and Philosophical libraries there is a combined catalogue which is built from a number of theological libariy catalogues from around the UK. This facility not only provides a good core bibliography but also several versions of the same record in many instances so that you can chose a preferred cataloguing style if your institution is similar to one of the contributors. For details of this facility contact us and we will supply you with contact details for the Theological Heritage User Group.
